2 Peter

2 Peter 3:17-18

17 You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; 18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

Since we have been forewarned, we must be on our guard so that we may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from our secure position.
Since we have been warned and know these things beforehand, we must be on your guard so that we are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men who distort doctrine and fall from our own steadfastness of mind, knowledge, truth, and faith.

But we must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
But we must grow spiritually mature in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

To Him be glory both now and forever!
To Him be glory, honor, majesty, splendor, both now and to the day of eternity!

Amen.

2 Peter 3:14-16

14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; 15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, 16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.

Since we are looking forward to this, we must make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with God.
Since we are looking forward to these things, we must be diligent and make every effort to be found by Him at His return spotless and blameless, in peace, inwardly calm with a sense of spiritual well-being and confidence, having lived a life of obedience to Him.

We must bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation.
We must consider the patience of our Lord, His delay in judging and avenging wrongs as salvation, allowing time for more to be saved.

2 Peter 3:10-13

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

The day of the Lord will come like a thief.

The heavens will disappear with a roar.
The heavens will vanish with a mighty and thunderous roar.

The elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.
The material elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and the works that are on it will be burned up.

2 Peter 3:8-9

8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness.
The Lord does not delay as though He were unable to act and is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness.

Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
But is extraordinarily patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:5-6

5 For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, 6 by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. 7 But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.

By His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly people.
