Luke

Luke 7:1-10

1
Now when He concluded all His sayings in the hearing of the people, He entered Capernaum.

2
And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear to him, was sick and ready to die.

3
So when he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to Him, pleading with Him to come and heal his servant.

4
And when they came to Jesus, they begged Him earnestly, saying that the one for whom He should do this was deserving,

5
“for he loves our nation, and has built us a synagogue.”

6
Then Jesus went with them. And when He was already not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying to Him, “Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof.

7
Therefore I did not even think myself worthy to come to You. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.

8
For I also am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

9
When Jesus heard these things, He marveled at him, and turned around and said to the crowd that followed Him, “I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!”

10
And those who were sent, returning to the house, found the servant well who had been sick.

Jesus was not far from / near the house when the centurion sent friends to say to Jesus:

“Lord, do not trouble Yourself further, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof.
Lord, do not trouble Yourself further, for I am not worthy for You to come under my roof.

That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to You.
Therefore I did not even consider myself worthy to come to You.

But say the word, and my servant will be healed.
But just speak a word, and my slave will be healed.

For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me.
For I also am a man subject to authority, with soldiers under me.

I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes.
I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes.

I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
I say to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

When Jesus heard this, He was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd that was following Him:

“I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.”
“I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith as this man’s.”

Then the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well.
When the messengers who had been sent returned to the house, they found the slave in good health.

Luke 12:22-24

22 Then He said to His disciples, “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on. 23 Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing. 24 Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds? 25 And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? 26 If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest? 27 Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 28 If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith?

29 “And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. 30 For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. 31 But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you.

32 “Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

We should not set our heart on what we will eat or what we will drink.
We should not seek what we will eat or what we will drink.

We should not worry about these things.
We should not be anxious or have an unsettled mind about these things.

Our heavenly Father already knows that we need these things.

But we should strive for and actively seek first the kingdom of God and all these things will be given to us as well.
