“For My people have committed two evils:
They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters,
And hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water.
My people have committed two sins:
My people have committed two evils:
They have forsaken Me, the spring of living water.
They have abandoned (rejected) Me, the fountain of living water.
And they have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.
And they have carved out their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.
18 For behold, I have made you this day
A fortified city and an iron pillar,
And bronze walls against the whole land—
Against the kings of Judah,
Against its princes,
Against its priests,
And against the people of the land.
19 They will fight against you,
But they shall not prevail against you.
For I am with you,” says the Lord, “to deliver you.”
God to Jeremiah:
They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you.
They will fight against you, but they will not ultimately prevail over you, for I am with you always to protect you and deliver you.
17 Everyone is dull-hearted, without knowledge;
Every metalsmith is put to shame by the carved image;
For his molded image is falsehood,
And there is no breath in them.
18 They are futile, a work of errors;
In the time of their punishment they shall perish.
19 The Portion of Jacob is not like them,
For He is the Maker of all things;
And Israel is the tribe of His inheritance.
The Lord of hosts is His name.
He who is the Portion of Jacob is not like these, for He is the Maker of all things, including the people of His inheritance— the Lord Almighty is His name.
The Portion of Jacob, the true God of Israel, is not like these handmade gods.
For He is the Maker of all and the One who formed and fashioned all things, and Israel is the tribe of His inheritance—The Lord of hosts is His name.
