Job 5:9, 17-19
Who does great things, and unsearchable,
Marvelous things without number.
“Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects;
Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty.
For He bruises, but He binds up;
He wounds, but His hands make whole.
He shall deliver you in six troubles,
Yes, in seven no evil shall touch you.
God performs wonders that cannot be fathomed.
God performs miracles that cannot be counted.
Blessed is the one whom God corrects.
So we should do not despise or reject the discipline of the Almighty subjecting us to trial and suffering.
God inflicts pain, but He also binds us up and gives us relief.
God wounds us, but His hands also heal us.
And he said:
“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
And naked shall I return there.
The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away;
Blessed be the name of the Lord.”
In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong.
Naked, without any possessions, we came into this world from our mother’s womb, and naked we will depart this world.
God gives and God takes away.
May the name of the Lord be praised.
Through all this Job did not sin nor did he blame God with wrongdoing.
And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.
When Job prayed for his friends, God restored the fortunes of Job and God gave Job twice as much as he had before.
